Geometry of the Night

A geometry of artificial lights describes the silence of a Roman street at night. The stones of the buildings and the texture of the cobblestones emerge from the darkness, surfaces of a memory that resists the city's slumber.
The wide aperture (f/1.6) and high sensitivity (ISO 800) allowed the scene to be captured handheld, with a fast shutter speed that crystallizes the texture of the stones. This technical choice translates the scarce nocturnal light into dense matter, sharply defining volumes.
