The Path in the Rock

A path of stone steps follows a high rock face sheer above the sea. The path, protected by a simple wooden railing, ascends and disappears behind the curve of the rock, introducing a tension between the visible journey and the hidden destination.
The vertical composition is built on the diagonal of the path, which cuts the image, separating the material mass of the rock on the left from the openness of the sea and sky. The aperture at f/10 ensures an extended depth of field, rendering both the stone textures in the foreground and the horizon with the same sharpness.
