A light wood wall is cut by a dark threshold. Inside, the space is almost entirely in shadow, but offers a glimpse of a hanging painting and an illuminated portion of the floor. The opening acts as an invitation to look, yet the darkness preserves the contents of the room, introducing a possible tension between what is shown and what is hidden.
The composition is strictly frontal, built on the interlocking of rectangles: the wall and the threshold. The use of a stopped-down aperture (f/13) keeps both the texture of the exterior wood and the details emerging from the interior in focus, treating the different planes with equal sharpness.
