The view is framed by the dark structure of a boat, dividing the internal space from the external one. Sunlight strikes the surface of the water, while the coastline emerges in the distance. The composition introduces a distance, that of transit, between the observer and the landscape being crossed.
Shot at 17mm, the image uses a wide-angle lens to contrast the proximity of the dark interior with the vastness of the landscape. The composition is sharply divided by vertical lines, which fragment the view and create tension between the enclosed space and the sunlit outer scene.
